Lali Kandelaki

Lali Kandelaki Born in Tbilisi, Georgia. Graduated from Vakhtang Chabukiani Ballet Art State School  under tutorship of Vakhtang Chabukiani, Nina Didebulidze and Margarita Grishkevich.

Kandelaki’s debut at Tbilisi Z.Paliashvili Opera and Ballet Professional State Theatre stage was held in Sergei Prokofiev’s Cinderella (staging by George Aleksidze). Soon her repertory expanded to new roles including Odette-Odile (Swan Lake); Gamzatti (La Bayadere); Javara (Gorda); Kitri (Don Quixote).
 She was leading dancer of all George Aleksidze’s ballets. Aleksidze’s Symphonic Dances significantly contributed to her remarkable success at 1997 Edinburgh International Festival.

Lali Kandelaki is a laureate of XIX Varna International Ballet Competition, where she achieved gold and first prize in 2000.

In 1997 Kandelaki became principal dancer of Mersin Opera and Ballet Theatre in Turkey; She played parts in N. Maghalashvili’s following stagings: Carmen (Carmen Suite), Bess (Porgy and Bess), Giselle (Giselle), Medora (Le Corasaire), Scheherazade, Nurida (One thousand and one nights), Juliette (Romeo and Juliette).

From January 2003 she became leading soloist of Budapest “Art Ballet” (Gerard Michelle Bobotie Company).

From September 2003 she is prima ballerina at Tbilisi Z.Paliashvili Opera and Ballet Professional State Theatre.

Her repertory includes: Fadeechev’s ballets: Odette-Odile (Swan Lake); Kitri (Don Quixote); Giselle (Giselle); Sugar Plum Fairy (The Nutcracker); Juliet (Romeo and Juliet, choreography by Leonid Lavrovsky); Marie (The Nutcracker, choreography by Yuri Grigorovich); The Gypsy Woman(The Two Pigeons, choreography by Frederick Ashton); Laurencia (Laurencia, choreography by Vakhtang Chabukiani, choreographic version by Nukri Maghalashvili); Titania (Midsummer Night’s Dream, choreography by Trey McIntyre); solo roles in George Balanchine’s Serenade, Apollo Musagete, Western Symphony , Tarantella, Tchaikovsky pas de deux, Chaconne; Symphony in C, August Bournonville’s Le Conservatoire;  Frederick Ashton’s  Birthday Offering and pas de deux from Voices of Spring; Contemporary ballet stagings by Trey McIntyre  Second Before the Ground, Alexei Ratmansky Dreams About Japan, Yuri Possokhov Sagalobeli  and Reflection,  Jirí Kylián Stepping Stones.

Lali Kandelaki performed on stages of various theatres, together with world ballet stars Igor Zelensky (Mariinsky Theatre); Angel Corella, David Hallberg (ABT); Andrey Uvarov, Yuri Klevtsov, Dmitri Belogolovtsev (Bolshoi Theatre). In 2000 she was invited to Seoul, South Korea in Oleg Vinogradov’s ballet company and she toured to United Kingdom, Germany and Austria. In 2003, under guidance of Alexei Fadeyechev, she performed with the Moscow Ballet Theatre in United Kingdom and Japan. She participated in the International Festivals in Edinburgh (1997, 2008) and Jacob’s Pillow (USA 2007,2010) and Spoleto (USA 2007,2010). During 2007-2013 Kandelaki participated in Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater company tours to the USA, Japan, Egypt, Ukraine and Armenia, performing leading roles in Swan Lake, Don Quixote and Giselle.

In 2008 she toured with Royal Swedish Ballet in China, performing Odette-Odile from Swan Lake.
Kandelaki was awarded with Order of Honor of Georgia in 2009 and is recipient of the Vakhtang Chabukiani Medal.

In 2011-2013 Lali Kandelaki was the company manager at Tbilisi Z. Paliashvili Opera and Ballet Professional State Theatre.
