Pagliacci comes back to opera stage after ten years

On 12 April the renewed opera stage saw a successful premiere of Pagliacci.
The initiative of restoring the performance belongs to Davit Kintsurashvili.
Zaza Azmaiparashvili is the conductor, Temur Chkheidze is the Director and Giorgi Alexi-Meskhishvili is the Designer of Pagliacci.

Especially for this premiere the opera theater has invited the internationally recognized Georgian baritone George Gagnidze. After fourteen years of separation, the Georgian baritone sang Tonio’s Party (with which he toured the world's leading theaters), for the first time, at the Georgian Opera Theatre, on April 12. The Georgian State Opera, by the initiative of George Gagnidze, dedicated this performance to the memory of his teacher and a famous singer – Tamaz Laperashvili.
The Opera Orchestra and Chorus, as well as leading soloists of the State Opera –  Anzor Khidasheli, Irina Taboridze, Zaal Khelaia and Irakli Murjikneli, participated in Pagliacci together with George Gagnidze.
It is symbolic that 165 years ago on this very day, on April 12, the grandiose ball marked the opening of the first Opera Theatre Transcaucasia, which became the most important cultural center and remains as such not only in Georgia but in the whole region.
