Opera opens its 166th season

On September 17, the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre will open the 166th season with Zakaria Paliashvili’s opera ABESALOM AND ETERI. On September 20 the charity opera Gala concert will be held with the participation of the Theatre Opera Company. The funds received from the concert will be used for buying the saplings to plant in the capital. The saplings will be planted by the Theatre staff themselves.
On September 17, Teimuraz Gugushvili, People’s Artist of Georgia, soloists of opera theater: Makvala Aspanidze, Elene Janjalia, Ira Iosidze, Vakhtang Jashiashvili, Philippe Gachava, Giorgi Chelidze (Intern), Irina Sherazadishvili (Intern), Alexandre Tibelishvili (Intern), Giorgi Tsamalashvili (Intern) and the Opera Theater Orchestra and Chorus will take part in Abesalom and Eteri. At the conductor’s stand - Zaza Azmaiparashvili, Principal Conductor of the Theater, Director - Gizo Jordania, Set Designer  - Giorgi Alexi-Meskhishvili, Choreographer - Iliko Sukhishvili.

On September 20, the opera Theatre soloists will perform the arias and ensembles from the operas by Verdi, Giordano, Puccini, Donizetti, Paliashvili, Dolidze, Taktakishvili and Rachmaninoff at the CHARITY GALA Concert.

One of the most important events after the opening of the season is the tour of the Opera Chorus to the Czech Republic. On September 26, the Chorus will perform the The Requiem by Cherubini in one of Europe's most famous concert halls in Prague - Rudolfinum, and on September 27 - in the Besední dům in Brno. The Concert Tour is held under the patronage of the Czech Minister of Culture.

During the 165th anniversary season at the Opera and Ballet Theatre eight premieres and large-scale productions were performed, gala concerts were held, a new ballet festival was established, the stage was given a new generation of singers, interns, opera soloists, the conductors of all generations were seen on the podium, the Children’s Chorus was involved in the premieres, the names of famous singers, dancers, groups, directors, choreographers, and maestros were heard, tours were held. The opera and ballet lovers had the opportunity to see the distinguished season.
