Leyla Gencer Voice Competition: Live preliminary auditions in Tbilisi on 5-6 June

10TH LEYLA GENCER VOICE COMPETITION APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

 Co-organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), Borusan Sanat, and Accademia Teatro alla Scala, the Leyla Gencer Voice Competition returns for its 10th edition in 2024. The triennial competition is dedicated to the estimable memory of ‘La Diva Turca’ Leyla Gencer and was held under her patronage until she passed away in 2008.

The 10th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition is open to singers between the ages of 18 and 32 from all voice categories. The applications are open until 3 May 2024 and the final series will be held in Istanbul on 22-27 September 2024.

The competition distinguishes for its international jury, which includes some of the most influential figures from different fields in the profession, as much as for its previous winners, who have subsequently launched on truly international careers.

Presided by Stéphane Lissner, the jury of the 10th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition includes Viviana Barrios (Associate to the Artistic Director at Deutsche Oper Berlin), Alessandro Galoppini (Teatro alla Scala Casting Manager), David Gowland (Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artists Programme Artistic Director), Badri Maisuradze (Tenor, Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre Artistic Director) and Carlo Tenan (Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra Artistic Director and Principal Conductor).

The final series of the competition will be held in Istanbul on 22-27 September

This edition’s live preliminary auditions will be held in London (20 May), Berlin (23 May), Milan (24 May), Naples (29 May), Istanbul (3-4 June), and Tbilisi (5-6 June). Applicants will also have the choice of going through preliminary auditions by submitting their recordings online during application. The results of the preliminary auditions will be announced on the competition website on 1 July. The final series of the competition will take place in Istanbul between 22 and 27 September 2024.

The competition will bestow the following prizes upon the winners: €7,500 for the 1st prize, €4,000 for the 2nd prize, and €1,500 for the 3rd prize. The winner of the Leyla Gencer Audience Award of €1,500 will be chosen by the audience. As for special awards, Accademia Teatro alla Scala grants a three-month scholarship to one of the finalists. Furthermore, the winner of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra Special Award will be performing in a concert of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra and winner of the Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artists Programme Special Award will be entitled to a week of coaching sessions (minimum five) at the Royal Opera House in London. Deutsche Oper Berlin and Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre will each grant a Special Award in the form of a role in one of their productions.
