Avtandil Chkhenkeli

Avtandil Chkhenkeli specialized as a chorus master at the Choir School of the  St. Petersburg’s State Academic Glinka Capella (E. Emelin’s class) and at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire (the class of professor V. Paliashvili, People’s Artist). In 1982-85 he took internship to professor at the same Conservatoire under the leadrship of the Latvian People's Artist, Professor Jan Duminsh.

Maestro Chkhenkeli's rich professional experience originates since 1975. At various times he worked as Prinicpal Chorus Master of the Batumi State Opera and Ballet Theater, as the Artistic Director of Chief Conductor of Ajara State Capella, and was a professor and consultant at the Batumi Z. Paliashvili State Conservatoire. From 1983 to 1995, as well as from 2004 till today he is the Principal Chorus Master of the Tbilisi Z. Paliashvili Opera and Ballet Theater. Since 2007 he has been teaching in the Tbilisi State Conservatoire.

His repertoire consists of more than 40 operatic performances, as well as cantatas, oratories and vocal-symphonic works.

From 1984 to the present day, the Tbilisi State Opera Chorus headed by Avtandil Chkhenkeli takes part in a number of major theater performances and festivals: Moscow Bolshoi Theater (Russia), Minsk Opera House (Belarus), Yerevan Opera House (Armenia), Prokofiev International Opera Festival (Germany) , The International Verdi Festival (Busseto, ItaIy), Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival (Turkey),  Dalhalla Opera Festival (Sweden), Saaremaa Opera Days (Estonia), many performances in various cities of Israel,  etc.
