Bow
Contemporary
Choreography by Misook JEON
Dancers : Yunju LEE, Soeon Park, Heewon JEON, Minseon CHOI,
Soulyun PARK, Jisoo LEE, Hyeonggyu CHOI
Description :
Is bowing merely a gesture of welcome or is there a deeper meaning behind it? The Korean choreography Bow centers on a widespread gesture in Eastern culture, an act full of beauty showing politeness and respect. Bowing is also a reflection of hierarchy, as its angle depends on one's social position. In a performance of deconstruction, the dancers repeat the ritual ad nauseam, turning it into an onerous burden and thus questioning its reason for being – an outrageous thing to do in East Asia.

Contemporary Korean
Choreography by Bokyung JUNG

This work is a motif that started with the appearance of Gaksital (Bridal Mask). The thin, long eyes and the tails hanging down as if they were wrapped around show the appearance of women at the time when the expression of their feelings could not be freely expressed. In other words, forced silence and unnatural shyness caused by social restrictions. The choreographer created on the theme of women's life by dividing images of the symbolic meanings embodied in Gaksital

The dancer holds the drum with a small attached knob in the left-hand and beats the drumhead with a stick with the right hand. It is re-created based on that the audience can enjoy humorous fun and excitement together.

Description :
Nur tote Fische schwimmen mit dem Strom – German proverb(Only dead fish swim with the stream)

Individuals who lost its consciousness through mutual stimulation become infinitely sublime but sometimes return to barbarity as well. They hide themselves, exaggerate and simplify through anonymously so that declare liberty from responsibility. It is interesting, scared, and routine to be from individuals to a crowd and to provoke an individual into the crowd. On the other side of the exaggeration about zero-tolerance and brutality, covert unity and intimacy are based on. Through mob psychology, it closely observes two themes of human feelings and individuals in society and focuses on the double-sidedness of humanity.

Artistic Director  Misook Jeon

Artistic Director of the Tbilisi Ballet Festival: Nina Ananiashvili
